“The international break comes at a good time for Valencia CF. Now it’s time to unite, to become a family, to stick together. That’s essential to move forward and take the positive things from the matches.”
Palop: “It’s time to unite, keep working and move forward”
The former goalkeeper and Valencia CF legend speaks to VCF Media Radio about the current situation of the team
The former Valencia CF goalkeeper and legend, Andrés Palop, spoke to VCF Media Radio about the team’s current situation, Julen Agirrezabala, and the strong training work of the VCF Academy with goalkeepers.
Valencia CF representation in the U-20 World Cup
“That’s very complicated. There’s a lot of competition and it’s difficult nowadays. It’s a great achievement and shows the level of preparation in the VCF Academy with goalkeepers. It speaks very well of the work done at Valencia CF. I know how they work, I know the model and, obviously, it’s very difficult to take one player to this competition - imagine three (two with Spain and one with Argentina). It speaks very well of Aitor Bas and all the colleagues in the department. Football evolves very quickly, and goalkeepers need to be given the tools to be at the top.”
Julen Agirrezabala
“My opinion about him was already positive before he came to Valencia CF. Every time he played, he did a very good job. Athletic also work very well with goalkeepers. He’s very well prepared, dominates the aerial game, one-on-ones, has good positioning, and good footwork. It’s hard to find weaknesses. The only thing he needs is daily confidence. He’s now at a very demanding Club and comes to replace a top-performing goalkeeper. It’s not easy for him, but with the confidence he’s being given, he will make a big impact. He’ll bring more glory days than sadness. I value his career, behaviour, and personality. Patience is needed. He’s a very balanced, efficient goalkeeper, the kind you like to see in goal, and he will grow throughout the season. He will respond wonderfully.”
Mestalla
“I don’t see any Spanish stadium that fills the stands like Mestalla. The player must feel that the fans are with him, that they’re eager for Valencia CF to win. The fans are very demanding. The player must realise that he’s in a great Club, with a great history, and that he has to give 200% to please the fans and earn points at home.”
